Inverter Generators Revolutionizing Portable Generator Technology

Many things in today's world are revolutionizing the way that we live. In the world of portable power supply, inverter generators are revolutionizing the way that we carry power with us wherever we may go. The difference between tradition generators, and inverter generators is in the way that they convert the power before it's used. A typical generator that uses a two winding core (rotating two large coils inside its core) runs much like any engine that takes gas, and turns it into power.

However, this power is in fact an unstable, and distorted power that isn't as efficient as it should be. Inverter generators produce multiple phase ac power (by using multiple coils and multiple magnets) at high frequencies, which is electronically converted to dc using a microprocessing controlled inverter module, and then inverted back to low distortion ac that is readily usable. So, the power is converted into much a much more efficient, and readily usable form that will be more cost effective to run, and will be safer for running more sensitive equipment. What is called the sine wave output of inverter generators has little or no discern able distortion, or frequency error. In other words, inverter generators use the fuel that it is going to convert it into energy much more efficiently, because it's smarter - often they are digital.

When it comes to size, inverter generators are approximately twenty percent more efficient than conventional generators, and so they are capable of being smaller. The look of many of the smaller generators is often quite different as well. Instead of the customary "open" appearance that many of us are familiar with in a traditional generator, many of the newer, and smaller ones are completely enclosed. They are even equipped with various sensors for measuring temperature, current, and voltage.

So for running equipment that might be demanding at times, like an air conditioner, an inverter generator can sense, and rate its load temporarily accordingly to serve the demands of the piece of equipment that its running - hence many of them are digital. There are various companies that manufacture inverter generators including Honda, Yamaha, McCullogh, and a few others. This technology is relatively new, but is most certainly going to have a huge impact on the world of portable energy. With respect to reduced fuel consumption, convenience, and other factors that are putting demands on companies like Honda, and Yamaha to make changes, inverter generators are on the right track.
